SmartCap, an investment company, part of the Estonian Development Fund invests together with co-investor Firepower Ventures OÜ in the Estonian technology company Defendec OÜ, with up to 1.2 million euros in international potential.

On December 1, 2011, the United States Embassy in Tirana, Albania supported the Albanian Government by donating Defendec’s innovative monitoring systems for border protection. The donation was made possible under the Export Control and Related Border Security Assistance (EXBS) program, which is led and funded by the U.S. Department of State. EXBS is a worldwide program that aims to support countries to improve their export control systems, to prevent illegal shipments and smuggling, and to counter weapons proliferation threats.

During the period of March 28-th until November 30-th 2011, European Social Fund has been co-financing the council project of quality management systems to develop and improve company's profile. The project has been supported by Estonian Enterprise.

On September 1-st of this year, the Estonian high-tech enterprise Defendec, and the enterprise promoting the SmartGrid concept on the US market PowerCon Energy Systems, entered into a development and licensing contract, as a result of which the North American enterprise can take into use technology that enables the monitoring of the electricity consumption of private customers and, therefore, reasonably regulate the production and consumption volumes.
